Meet the Founder
Delois H. Smith, LPC NCC
Delois H. Smith is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a
diversity subject matter expert. Ms. Smith retired after 35 years of
service at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) where she
held two successive Vice President positions: initially as Vice President
for Student Affairs and a second position as Vice President for Diversity
and Multicultural Affairs. During her UAH tenure, Ms. Smith held
progressively responsible administrative positions in the areas of race,
culture, ethnicity and inclusion. Following her service to diverse
student populations, faculty, staff and administrative constituents, she
was appointed by the UAH president to serve as Chief Diversity Officer
and charged to develop the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for
the UAH campus and serve as diversity liaison in service to the
Huntsville, Alabama community.
In these university administrative positions, she was responsible for
strategic planning, fiscal management, and staffing of these university
offices serving faculty, staff, students and administrators. Areas of
responsibility included Affirmative Action, Equity, EEO issues, Federal
and State compliance concerns, Title IX compliance, diversity
programming and training, consulting, and community outreach.
Ms. Smith is a graduate of the University of Florida with a B.A. in
Psychology and a Master’s in Educational Psychology. She is an
Intercultural Development Administrator (QA, IDI). She is the Founder
and President of Deep Waters Counseling and Consulting Services,
LLC and continues to serve as a professional consultant to local and
national companies and organizations.
